About
I'm Dan Scarf, a security-focused cloud practitioner and incurable tinkerer.
These days I run ennovas.com, where I provide AI, security, and IT leadership services. I'm also building ennovas.ai, an AI-native startup focused on HIPAA-compliant agentic enablement.
I hold trust as sacred, and I believe everyone deserves a chance to succeed regardless of what they look or sound like.
Outside of work
I'm usually tinkering with whatever the current awesome thing is — partly out of endless curiosity, partly to keep my technical skills sharp.
My wife Michelle and I foster for the Washington German Shepherd Rescue, which has filled our house with more dogs than is probably reasonable.
I'm an unapologetic fan of older Star Trek — TOS, TNG, Voyager, and Enterprise. Not DS9. I'll die on this hill. Firefly gets honorable mention for being the show that should have run for ten seasons. On the movie side, Dog and The Fifth Element are both reliably in rotation.
Books that shaped how I work
A short list I keep coming back to:
- The Phoenix Project — Gene Kim, Kevin Behr, George Spafford
- The DevOps Handbook — Gene Kim, Jez Humble, Patrick Debois, John Willis
- The Goal — Eliyahu Goldratt
- Dare to Lead — Brené Brown
- Career Warfare — David D'Alessandro
